MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — An environmental group will be allowed to submit public comments about proposed solar projects in Rutland Town.

The Rutland Herald reports that the Public Utilities Commission rejected a request from the developer, Otter Creek Solar of New York, to exclude comments from Vermonters For a Clean Environment. The commission says the group's comments aren't considered evidence because it doesn't have legal party status, but that public comments are an important part of the process.

The group has raised questions about accommodating wildlife on the wooded, 50-acre parcel. The developers argue there is little evidence of use of the land by wildlife.

The group's executive director, Annette Smith, says the idea of striking a public comment is ridiculous.
