Code Red alert leads to possible ID of stolen car suspect in Newtown
NEWTOWN — Newtown police said Tuesday that the Code Red alert sent to residents on Monday was triggered by officers investigating a stolen car.
The stolen car was left abandoned in the area of Pole Bridge Road. Police said a younger Hispanic male was seen leaving the car, which was reported stolen out of Danbury. Officers converged on the area to try to find the suspect.
Police said a Code Red was sent to residents for informational purposes because of the large police presence in the area.
“Based on the Code Red, our police department received information on the suspect and he has been tentatively identified,” police said.
The investigating into the case is active, police said. The department is hoping to make an arrest soon.
“We(’d) really like to thank everyone for their help and cooperation,” police said.
