Baraboo zoo swan dies
A beloved 14-year-old swan died last week at the Ochsner Park Zoo.
Zoo staff found Snowflake dead in the zoo’s deer pond. Parks Director Mike Hardy said a necropsy will be conducted, but he suspects she drowned or died of natural causes.
“As Snowflake was a staff favorite, our entire staff was upset at her loss,” Hardy said. “She will be missed by staff and visitors alike.”
Snowflake made news a year ago when her broken left wing was amputated at the University of Wisconsin. She hadn’t been able to use it since being shot in 2004, when she was beginning a takeoff with her parents and a hunter mistook her for a snow goose.
