February 25, 2019

And the winner is...

Vincent Mauro, chief of staff for Senate Democrats, is this year’s winner in the list of salaries for legislative and non-partisan staff, coming in at $174,585.

The breakdown, released to Hearst Connecticut Media under the terms of the state Freedom of Information Act, has salary information for more than 400 State Capitol employees, including about 100 who make more than $100,000 a year. Mauro’s pay just edges out his office mate Joel Rudikoff, the caucus’s veteran analyst, checking in at $172,010.

But the vast majority of the six-figure salaries will go to non-partisan lawyers, analysts and administrators of the Capitol complex. House Republicans - code HRO in the list - have six workers over $100,000; House Democrats - HDO - have seven; Senate Democrats - SDO - have six; and Senate Republicans - SRO - have seven over the magic $100,000.

Jack Shannon of Trumbull, a top adviser to Senate Republicans, makes $161,138.

In the realm of nonpartisan staff, Jim Tamburro, executive director of the Office of Legislative Management, is making $161,600; and Rob Wysock, chief legislative analyst for the Office of Fiscal Analysis - OFA - is paid $166,862.

The office codes include SEC for security; OLR for Office of Legislative Research; OLM for Office of Legislative Management; LCO for the Legislative Commissioner’s Office, which writes legalese for thousands of bills each year; and ITS for information technology.
