Ice skating rink open to visitors this weekend
What could be better than merely walking in a winter wonderland? Possibly skating through one.
The Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department is inviting the public to find out Friday through Sunday at the Brownsville Sports Park ice skating rink. Admission will be $10 per hour for all ages, and people with special needs may take a helper into the rink.
It will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The park is located at 1000 Sports Park Blvd.
“I think that everyone should come out here and at least be part of the experience,” Brownsville Sports Park Superintendent Ray Arellano said. “It’s in our backyard, and it’s something that is really positive for the entire community.”
Arellano said the rink of synthetic ice will be set up near outside the basketball court, so it will be level, well-lit and near a parking lot.
“My understanding is it’s almost like the real thing,” he said. “The best part of it is I can’t wait to see the kids in the skating rink.”
