No. 13 Texas 76, Arkansas St. 50
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Johnna Pointer scored 15 of her career-high 22 points in the first half, leading No. 13 Texas to 76-50 victory over previously unbeaten Arkansas State on Tuesday night.
Fay Meeks and Cinietra Henderson scored 13 points apiece and Nekeshia Henderson added 10 for the Lady Longhorns (3-1).
Nicole Wickett led Arkansas State (2-1) with 18 points and Shyla Tucker had 13. The Indians’ leading scorer, Sonja Tate, was held to 13 points, 10 below her season average.
Texas built its largest lead right before halftime when Pointer hit a jumper from the free throw line with one second left, giving the Longhorns a 43-24 advantage. Texas maintained a 20-point cushion throughout most of the second half.
Pointer was 9-of-18 from the floor, including three of five from 3-point range.
Texas outrebounded Arkansas State 54-32, and held the Indians to 29-percent shooting.
