January 16, 2019

The No. 6-ranked Newtown girls basketball team almost suffered its first loss against Connecticut opposition this year, but a strong fourth quarter led to a 56-53 win over Barlow on Tuesday night.

The upset-minded Falcons led 47-43 heading into the final eight minutes before the Nighthawks defense held firm and only allowed six points. Nicki DaPra led Newtown (10-1) offensively with 17 points while Cyleigh Wilson added 14.

Three players scored in double figures for the Falcons, including 16 from Julia Mullin.
