Man accused of torturing puppy gets prison in larceny case
FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A man currently on trial for animal cruelty charges has pleaded guilty to stealing $4,500 from a Massachusetts church.
The Herald News (http://bit.ly/2dChzEl ) reports that 35-year-old Radoslaw Czerkawski (RAD’-oh-slaw zehr-KAW’-skee) entered the plea Tuesday to eight counts of larceny by check over $250. A judge sentenced Czerkawski to three to five years in prison.
Prosecutors say the money was taken from St. Lawrence Martyr Parish in New Bedford, where Czerkawski had stayed in 2012.
Czerkawski is serving prison time after he was convicted last year of stealing from an elderly woman he was caring for.
Czerkawski has denied separate charges he tortured a year-old pit bull found abandoned near the woman’s home in August 2013. The dog, nicknamed “Puppy Doe” by police, had to be euthanized.
