Kucera Helps Defending Champions
PERTH, Australia (AP) _ Karol Kucera and Karina Habsudova beat Martina Hingis and Ivo Heuberger 6-4, 6-0 today to give defending champion Slovakia a 2-1 victory over Switzerland in the Hopman Cup.
In singles, Hingis, ranked No. 2 in the world, routed Habsudova 6-0, 6-3, and Kucera beat Heuberger 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
In a late match, the French team of Guillaume Raoux and Sandrine Testud defeated South Africa’s Wayne Ferreira and Amanda Coetzer 2-1.
After Coetzer defeated Testud 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, France rallied as Raoux took advantage of eight double faults by Ferreira to win 6-3, 7-5. Then Raoux and Testrud took the decisive mixed doubles 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, winning on their seventh match point.
