March 7, 2019

At least two people were rescued from a Winchester Woods apartment fire Wednesday morning, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

No one was injured in the fire at the two-story structure. The blaze caused moderate fire and smoke damage and was under control in 12 minutes, the department said.

Firefighters were called to 1817 Woodhaven Drive off Bluffton and Winchester roads about 11:15 a.m. and found smoke coming from a first-floor apartment, with people on second-floor balconies needing to be rescued.

Four people escaped without assistance, the department said.

The building was searched and a dog was found alive in a second-floor apartment. The dog was turned over to Animal Care & Control.

The fire remains under investigation.
