Westmoreland campus clippings: Indof leads way for Behrend women’s soccer

Emily Indof transferred to Penn State Behrend after a year at Duquesne. The Lions women’s soccer team is glad she made the move.

Indof, a Greensburg Salem graduate, has a team-high eight goals and handed out three assists for Behrend (4-5, 2-0 AMCC).

A sophomore forward, Indof had back-to-back hat tricks last week in victories over La Roche, 5-2, and Medaille, 6-0.

Akron: Sophomore forward Lexie Kolano (Norwin) has a goal and an assist so far this season, since she joined the Zips (4-7-1) after transferring from Cincinnati. Teammate Sydney Ward (Greensburg Central Catholic), a freshman midfielder, has played in six games.

Pitt-Greensburg: Freshman Tiffany Michalek scored the lone goal, and reigning Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, freshman Lauren Yoder, made six saves as UPG (6-2-1, 2-0) blanked Penn State Altoona, 1-0.

Seton Hill: Senior Madison Schwerzler scored the winning goal in overtime as the Griffins (8-2, 7-2 PSAC) edged Shippensburg, 2-1. Redshirt junior Italia Biondi (Penn-Trafford) also scored, with an assist from senior Emily LoPresti. Seton Hill is No. 4 in the Atlantic Regional rankings.

St. Francis (Pa.): Junior forward Abigail Tarosky (Norwin) has two assists, and junior defender Sarah Ward (Greensburg Central Catholic) has one helper in 12 games for the Red Flash. Both have been in and out of the starting lineup.

Football

Allegheny: Senior running back Tyler Balla (Greensburg Central Catholic) ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Gators to a 52-20 victory over Hiram. He is the first Allegheny player to rush for three scores in a game since 2005.

Cal (Pa.): Senior Ben Pevarnik (Greensburg Central Catholic) started at right offensive guard in Saturday’s 36-24 upset of No. 2 IUP at Cal (Pa.). The Vulcans (3-2, 2-0 PSAC) racked up 435 yards, including 256 through the air.

Freshman wide receiver Jackson Daugherty (Ligonier Valley) also saw time in the win.

IUP: Junior linebacker Nick Amendola (Norwin) tied a game high with 10 tackles in a 36-24 loss to Cal. The Crimson Hawks had not lost a regular season game since 2016.

Men’s soccer

Northwestern: Senior defender Jake Roberge (Franklin Regional) has played in 10 games this season for the Wildcats (4-4-2, 0-3-1 Big Ten).

Slippery Rock: Freshman forward Alex Vilchek (Yough) has started all 10 games and has two assists for the Rock (3-5-2). Sophomore forward Connor Jobe (Greensburg Salem) has appeared in nine games, and freshman midfielder Tyler Ramer (Greensburg Salem) has one assist in seven games.
