Man charged with punching police found incompetent for trial
WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts teen accused of punching four officers and a police dog has been found incompetent to stand trial.
The Republican newspaper reports that a judge ruled 18-year-old Vadym Misiruk was incompetent to stand trial after reviewing an assessment by Bridgewater State Hospital staffers. O’Grady ordered the Westfield teen to be evaluated and treated pending a Dec. 4 dangerousness hearing.
Police say Westfield police officers responded to calls about an assault on Oct. 7. Investigators say Misiruk attacked and spit on arriving officers and punched a police dog.
Misiruk was charged with assault charges in two previous incidents.
