The Brownsville Police Department is investigating an early morning single vehicle accident that resulted in the death of two teenagers.

Police Spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez said the accident occurred at approximately 12:27 a.m. on the 300 block of west 5th Street Tuesday morning when the vehicle, which had four occupants, crashed into a property.

Gonzalez said a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old died in the accident while another 15-year-old and 16-year-old survived and are in stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and, like all accidents, investigators will work to determine whether speed was a factor, whether drugs and alcohol were involved and whether phone use played a part in the fatal accident.
