Mutiny 3, Rapids 1

July 21, 1996

DENVER (AP) _ Giuseppe Galderisi scored a goal and assisted on the winner Sunday as the Tampa Bay Mutiny beat Colorado 3-1, the Rapids’ third straight Major League Soccer loss.

Roy Lassiter added his 13th goal of the season before a sparse crowd of 6,320 at Mile High Stadium.

Tampa Bay, which improved to 11-7, led 1-0 at halftime before the Rapids tied the game on Matt Kmosko’s goal in the 61st minute, leading to the ejection of Colorado assistant coach Bruce Brown.

Brown argued that Mutiny defender Steve Pittman should have been penalized for using his hand to swat the ball out of the goal, but referee Frank Gorog said the ball already had crossed the goal line and Brown was given a red card for pushing the fourth official.

The Rapids (8-12) did not carry Brown’s intensity over, allowing Steve Ralston to score the go-ahead goal on a pass from Galderisi in the 72nd minute.

Galderisi beat an offside trap 11 minutes later and pushed a shot past charging goalie Chris Woods.
