Wrigley Field Lights Prompt Statler Lyric Change With PM-Cub Lights, Bjt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Turning the lights on for the first night game at Chicago’s Wrigley Field is forcing country music’s Statlers quartet to change the lyrics of their 7- year-old song ″Don’t Wait On Me.″
The lyrics of the 1981 song contain the phrase, ″When the lights go on at Wrigley Field, I’ll be coming home to you.″
Although the recording, from the album ″Years Ago,″ can’t be changed, the group will substitute the line with, ″When they put a dome on Wrigley Field, I’ll be coming home to you″ in performances.
″That ought to keep us ahead of them for a few years,″ The Statlers’ Don Reid said from his home in Staunton, Va.
″It never crossed our minds that one day they would put lights in Wrigley Field,″ said Reid, a baseball buff who wrote the song with his brother and fellow group member, Harold Reid.
