Downtown Market: Artists in focus in Stratford
With music, food and nearly five dozen vendors, Downtown Market: Stratford is expected to attract a thousand people when it opens for one day this weekend.
Launched three years ago, this juried crafts, art and jewelry show brings the crowds to the city’s downtown to peruse a mix of creative pursuits, including handpainted wood jewelry, art quilts, stained glass pieces and homemade hot sauce.
“The show has grown considerably,” said Neil Sherman, of the Stratford Economic and Community Development Commission, adding that the live music component will include a mini jazz festival, as well as bluegrass and DJ music.
“Stratford is rich in art, history and unique small businesses and the Downtown Market event is a perfect way to showcase them all,” said Stratford Mayor Laura R. Hoydick, in a recent news release. “Within walking distance from Stratford center there are several food establishments; Jamaican, Vietnamese, Mexican, Asian, Latin, Polish, Puerto Rican and Italian that spotlight Stratford’s unique heritage in culture, food and art.”
