Five area girls named to Hoosier Basketball Magazine list

Five area players were selected Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top Senior Girls’ high school players for 2018-19, as compiled by the publication. They were La Porte’s Riley Ott, Michigan City’s Hannah Noveroske and Janicia Anderson, and Marquette Catholic’s Emma Nolan and Sophia Nolan. This compilation is the result of direct observation of hundreds of games during the past season, as well as contact and discussion with numerous Indiana Basketball Coaches Association coaches, sportswriters, sportscasters, college recruiters, and referees throughout Indiana. Further research and evaluation will occur to determine a final list of 60 seniors. Those 60 girls will be invited to Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s 38th annual Top 60 Senior Girls’ Workout on Sunday, March 3, at Marian University in Indianapolis.

Blazers’ semistate ticket equals free pizza

Marquette students who purchase a ticket to Saturday’s Class A girls basketball semistate at La Porte will receive free pizza at Thursday’s home boys basketball game versus Illiana Christian. “I’m very thankful for the support we received from our student section this past Saturday,” Director of Athletics and head coach Katie Collignon said in a media release. “I expect Northfield to travel well this weekend so we’re going to need Blazer Nation out in full force.” Students can show their semistate ticket in the Scholl Center Finance Lab between the 5:30 p.m. JV game and the varsity contest that follows to receive complimentary pizza. Semistate tickets are $10 and can be purchased in the athletic office during school hours. Marquette and Northfield will tip off at noon Saturday.

Blazers boys hoops schedule changes

Marquette and Illiana Christian will make up their boys basketball game on Thursday in a tripleheader at the Scholl Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play Jan. 23, but inclement weather forced the postponement. The C-Team contest will tip off at 4:30 with the junior varsity tilt slated for 5:30. The varsity game will tip off at about 7. Marquette’s game on Feb. 22 versus Goshen will be a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m., not the originally-scheduled 7:15 p.m. time. It will also be Senior Night. It will be conducted how the girls seniors were recognized, players and parents will be recognized prior to tip-off, and the Senior Night ceremony will be after the game.
