Indian Valley Theatre’s summer youth program returns in June

Staff WriterMay 23, 2019

The Indian Valley Theatre’s Summer Children’s Theatre Workshop offers children and youth, from incoming first-graders through the sixth grade, a fun, safe and rewarding atmosphere to learn about theatre and build their confidence performing.

Students will be introduced to the many facets of theater, including building sets, props and understanding the basics of putting on a show. Not only will they rehearse the play, but they also will participate in theater games and activities that introduce the basics of theater. These games develop poise, voice, confidence and movement and create an understanding of the characters for the play.

This year, IVT will bring to the stage “The Sasparilla Kid and the Bally Hoo Belle Gang,” written by Alethia Hummel. Every child will be cast in a part adapted to fit their specific talents and needs allowing them to explore, imagine, create and have fun.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon June 10 to 21 at the Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St. Students are expected to attend all classes and final student performances. Performances will be at

6:30 p.m. June 21 and 2 p.m. June 22.

Cost is $90 a student and includes a T-shirt. If three or more children are registering from the same family, the cost for the third student and each student thereafter is $75.

Classes fill up quickly so register soon. Registration can be made online at indianvalleytheatre.com/workshop or by mail by downloading the registration form.
