Micro cinema starts Thursday with ‘Donnie Darko’ screening
HUNTINGTON — The Cellar Door will be launching a new film series called Sleepless Cinema at its underground Huntington location.
The Cellar Door, located at 905 Third Ave., (beside LeBistro) will kick off Sleepless Cinema at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14 with a screening of the 2001 sci-film, “Donnie Darko” that was written and directed by Richard Kelly and that stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, and Mary McDonnell.
The Rated R film is set during the presidential election of 1988 when a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days. When Donnie returns home, he finds that a jet engine has crashed into his bedroom. Is Donnie living in a parallel universe, is he suffering from mental illness - or will the world really end?
