Man convicted on 2014 double killing in Fresno

September 19, 2018

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A Fresno man has been convicted of helping kill two people, including the father of a friend.

The Fresno Bee says 22-year-old Jorge Rodriguez showed no emotion as he was sentenced Tuesday for the December 2014 shootings in southeast Fresno.

Police contend that Rodriguez and another man were involved in a street robbery that killed 25-year-old Calvin Reese Jr.

Prosecutors say 51-year-old Jose Duenas was accidentally shot and killed during the holdup. He was the father of Rodriguez’s friend and co-defendant, Gustavo Duenas.

Rodriguez was convicted of second-degree murder for aiding and abetting the killings, although jurors said he didn’t actually shoot the men. His first trial in March ended in a mistrial.

Gustavo Duenas was convicted in March.

Rodriguez could now face 30 years to life in prison.
