U.S. Lightweight Women’s Scull Struggles
SCHINIAS, Greece (AP) _ The American women’s lightweight double scull will have to enter a second-chance race to reach the semifinals after finishing 11.4 seconds behind first-place Germany in their heat race Sunday.
The tandem of Stacy Borgman, a rare Alaskan native to take up rowing, and Oregon’s Lisa Schlenker finished fourth in their heat.
Only the top-finishing boats advanced directly to the semifinals in their event, which mean Poland’s boat also will have to race a repechage, scheduled for Tuesday, despite crossing the finish less that a second behind the Germans.
Other heat winners were Romania and Australia.
