Ringing in a New Holiday Season
CHELMSFORD -- It’s about time again to ring in the winter holiday season.
Grab a hot cocoa, jump on a hay ride and settle in to see the lights come to life at the annual Holiday Prelude on the town common on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the tree lighting at 5 p.m.
“Everyone is welcome. The event itself is free but we’re always accepting donations,” Vivian Merrill, a member of the Holiday Decorating Committee, told the Board of Selectmen last Monday. “That goes a long way in trying to do other activities for the next year.”
The event, held the first Sunday in December each year, will feature horse-drawn and tractor hay rides for the whole family, face painting, musical entertainment and a number of other activities around the town common, Central Square and area churches, Merrill said.
Rain (or snow) or shine, subzero temperatures or unseasonably warm, “it goes on no matter what,” Merrill said.
The Chelmsford Dog Association will sponsor free photos with Santa, who arrives at 4 p.m. Images will be available for download at www.chelmsforddogassociation.org .
The Vinal Square Decorating Committee will also host a tree lighting and winter festivities on the North Chelmsford common on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event will include holiday carols and music, hot chocolate, candy canes, pizza, bake sale and a visit from Santa.
