Training Device Explodes At U.S. Air Base, Injures Three
FRANKFURT, West Germany (AP) _ A small training explosive device left in the passenger terminal of the U.S. Rhein-Main Air Base detonated Sunday, injuring three civilian base employees, a military spokesman said.
The employees, all West Germans, suffered minor injuries and were treated at a clinic at the nearby Frankfurt International Airport, said Sgt. Larry Clavette, a spokesman for the Rhein-Main base.
Clavette said the blast occurred at about 11 a.m.
The device exploded after it had been ″improperly abandoned″ in the passenger terminal, Clavette told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
He said base officials were investigating the incident and that he could not give other details.
