Florida Congresswoman Hospitalized
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Florida Rep. Carrie Meek was hospitalized Thursday after experiencing severe abdominal pains.
Meek, an 18-term Democrat who represents the Miami area, was admitted to Bethesda Naval Hospital, said deputy chief of staff John Shelby.
Shelby said Meek, 75, began experiencing pain the day before.
``She went and saw the doctor a couple of times. They were not able to diagnose what was wrong and they were not able to alleviate the pain,″ Shelby said. ``They will be doing tests to find out what’s wrong with her.″
Meek was unable to be present for Thursday’s vote on whether to grant the president the authority to negotiate trade deals. That measure passed by only one vote.
Meek’s son, Florida state Sen. Kendrick B. Meek, was en route to Washington to be with his mother, Shelby said.
