One person dies in Sunday Florence County crash

FLORENCE, S.C. -- One person died and a second was seriously injured in a single vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95.

The 2:40 p.m. crash happened in the south-bound lanes at the 157 mile marker, near the US 76 interchange in west Florence.

A south-bound Nissan SUV ran off the right side of the road and overturned, said Lance Cpl. David Jones, South Carolina Highway Patrol. A back-seat passenger was ejected in the crash and died at the scene. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Florence area hospital, Jones said.

The crash remains under investigation, Jones said.

The Florence County Coroner’s Office hasn’t yet released the name of the victim.
