Cary High band director suspended during investigation
The Cary High School band director has been suspended with pay during an internal investigation, the school’s principal said Tuesday.
Principal Nolan Bryant said in a statement that Matt Minick was suspended March 5 “while the school system reviews concerns brought to our attention.” A week later, Minick remains listed on the band website.
Bryant said he was “aware of unfounded rumors” and said the investigation does not involve “allegations of physical interactions.”
Bryant said “a substitute teacher, a professional band clinician and a volunteer” would work with the band to help them prepare for upcoming competitions.
Cary’s band performs at high school football games in the fall, at an annual holiday concert, in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association district concert band festival and spring concerts.
In 2016, the band marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
