December 1, 2018

SHELTON — A car went off the highway and crashed into a tree Thursday night, according to Shelton fire officials.

Around 8 p.m., fire companies 1 and 3 responded to Route 8 south between Exits 13 and 12, on the Shelton-Derby line, for a report of a car that had driven off the roadway.

“Squad 1 and Engine 2 found one vehicle off the road into a tree with heavy damage,” fire officials said.

Crews helped medical personnel treat one patient. Fire units stayed on scene for help with traffic control as police investigated and the scene was cleared.

Another incident happened nearby the day prior, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday — this one on the northbound side, officials said.

The same fire companies were dispatched to Route 8 north between Exits 13 and 14 responded to a reported rollover crash with extrication.

When crews got to the scene, they found that a passerby helped the victim out of the car.
