Daily Journal staff report
BRACEVILLE — One man is dead and another man has been arrested after a fatal crash which occurred on Illinois Route 53 near Braceville late Monday morning.
A passenger in the vehicle, C. J. Loveland, 32, of Essex, was pronounced dead at Morris Hospital Monday after being transported there after the crash. He was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver, Jonathon Loveland, 36, of Braidwood, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Grundy County sheriff’s police said Jonathan Loveland was traveling northbound on Route 53 at a high rate of speed. He failed to negotiate a curve and lost control, striking a utility pole on the west side of the road.
After the crash, Jonathon Loveland fled the area on foot. He headed west through a wooded area, but eventually was caught and arrested by Grundy County sheriff’s police.
Route 53 remained closed for several hours after the wreck because of the broken utility pole. The Grundy County Emergency Management Agency, Braceville, Gardner, South Wilmington, Coal City and Wilmington Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. The two men involved in the accident share the last name, but their relationship was not immediately made known.
