NEW YORK (AP) _ Treasury bond prices were lower at midday.

The price of the Treasury's main 30-year bond was down 15-16 point, or $9.37 1/2 per $1,000 in face value, around midday, while its yield rose to 5.73 percent from 5.66 percent late Monday. Prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Yields on three-month Treasury bills were 5.84 percent as the discount fell 0.01 percentage point from Monday's auction to 5.67 percent. Six-month yields fell to 6.10 percent as the discount fell 0.03 percentage point from the weekly auction to 5.83 percent. One-year yields rose to 6.12 percent as the discount rose 0.02 percentage point to 5.79 percent.

Yields are the interest bonds pay by maturity, while the discount is the interest at which they are sold.
