Reds Put Belinda Back on DL
CINCINNATI (AP) _ The Cincinnati Reds put reliever Stan Belinda back on the disabled list and optioned catcher Guillermo Garcia to Triple-A Indianapolis following a 7-0 loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
Cincinnati called up first baseman Roberto Petagine and activated catcher Brook Fordyce off the disabled list. The Reds also moved infielder Pokey Reese _ out the rest of the season with a torn thumb ligament _ to the 60-day disabled list.
Belinda was on the disabled list from June 3 to July 8 with inflammation in the spinal cord, which caused numbness in his leg. He had a 3.05 ERA in 14 appearances since returning, but was put back on the DL after tests on Monday indicated he needed more rest.
Garcia was called up from Indianapolis on July 18 to fill in for Fordyce, who was sidelined by a sore shoulder. He hit .161 in 10 games.
Fordyce hit .286 in five games for Indianapolis as part of a medical rehab assignment.
Petagine hit .334 with 24 homers and 109 RBIs for Indianapolis, but was stuck in the minors because he can play only first base _ and the Reds have too many first basemen already. Manager Jack McKeon plans to use him off the bench.
