Man charged in armed robbery of Pittsburgh women outside Tremont bar

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 19-year-old man is accused of robbing two Pittsburgh women at gunpoint as they waited for their Uber outside a Tremont bar.

Daniel White Jr. of Cleveland is charged with aggravated robbery. He is not in police custody and a warrant was issued Wednesday for his arrest.

White is also charged in another robbery on July 20, and is on probation for a Feb. 23 robbery.

He is also accused of stealing a car that he and another man used to drive to the robbery in Tremont that happened on Aug. 12 outside the Spotted Owl bar on Jefferson Avenue.

The women, ages 35 and 49, left the bar and stood outside looking at their phones while they waited for their Uber.

White, and another man that police have not identified, walked up and one pointed a gun at them and grabbed their purses, police reports say.

The men ran west on Jefferson and may have ran down Thurman Alley, police reports say. Officers looked for the suspects and the purses in the area but didn’t find anything, police reports say.

The women reported that they had a phone, $600 cash, bank cards and car keys inside their stolen purses, police reports say.

Officers later tracked one of the women’s phones to apartment complex in Warrensville Heights, but that Warrensville Heights police never found it.

Investigators noted in police reports that a security camera from a nearby apartment building pointed directly at area where the robbery happened.

Investigators identified White in part because surveillance video showed he used one of the woman’s credit cards shortly after the robbery at a Speedy gas station on Broadway Avenue and East 62nd Street.

White is also accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint on July 21. White and another man followed the 29-year-old woman from a bus stop on East 152nd Street and Holmes Avenue.

The two men stopped the woman, pointed a gun at her and demanded her cellphone, court records say. One of the men patted her down, including her chest, and stole another phone from her pants pocket, police said. The duo sped off in an SUV, court records say.

White also pleaded guilty May 17 to attempted robbery in connection with the February incident. In that case, he stole a woman’s purse from her hands at Dave’s Supermarket on Harvard Avenue near East 76th Street and ran out of the

White was sentenced to 18 months on probation, including six months of house arrest. He could be sentenced to up to 18 months in prison for violating the terms of his probation.
