Forklift fire begins week
NORFOLK — A mechanical problem with a forklift resulted in a total loss to the machine and about $1,000 in damage to a building on Monday morning.
Lt. Travis Reich of the Norfolk Fire Division said firefighters were called at 7:42 a.m. on Monday to 3305 S. Grandview Road for a report of a forklift on fire.
Crews saw the forklift on fire in the south doorway of the building. It took about 14 firefighters and four rigs about five minutes to control the fire and another 45 minutes to overhaul the structure, Reich said.
Fire Marshal Terry Zwiebel determined the fire was caused by mechanical damage to the forklift, which was considered a total loss. Firefighters said the building sustained about $1,000 in damage.
The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office assisted. Nobody was injured.
Reich said he would like to remind people to check their fire extinguishers.
