KLOBUCHAR-MEDICAL DEVICES

In her more than two terms as a U.S. senator representing Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar has built a reputation as an effective champion for consumer safety, sponsoring bills that improve swimming pool safety, ban lead in children’s products and tackle the nation’s opioid crisis. But Klobuchar, who announced two weeks ago she will contend for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, has also forcefully advocated for the medical device industry — a huge employer in her home state. _ SALES TAX HOLIDAY: Two state lawmakers are proposing a sales tax holiday for Rhode Island. SENT.

_ URI RESEARCHER-SHARK SPECIES: A shark researcher at the University of Rhode Island has named a newly-discovered species of shark after his 17-year-old daughter. SENT.

_ STAIRWELL SHOOTING: A Massachusetts man who fired a gun during a party in a crowded apartment complex stairwell, killing a friend and injuring a second man, has been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison. SENT.

_ TRAFFICKING SENTENCING: A Massachusetts man convicted of trafficking a woman into sexual servitude will serve seven to 10 years in prison. SENT.

LIGHTNING-BRUINS

The East’s two top teams match up for the second time this season when Tampa Bay visits the Bruins. The Lightning (49-11-4) are coming off a franchise-best 10th straight win following an overtime victory against the Rangers.
