October 7, 2018

A 23-year-old man died early Saturday after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 275 just west of Ewing, Nebraska, in Holt County.

Emerson Schmaderer, 23, of O’Neill, Nebraska, was westbound in a 2007 Mitsubishi pickup shortly after 5 a.m. when the pickup crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound semitractor-trailer truck, driven by August C. Waterman, 65, of O’Neill.

Schmaderer, who was not using a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Waterman was not injured.

Investigators from the Holt County Sheriff’s Office said U.S. Highway 275 was closed for several hours after the accident. The collision remains under investigation.
