Brownsville teen killed in weekend accident
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating an accident on Southmost Boulevard that killed a 13-year-old boy after the vehicle he was in overturned into a canal.
DPS reported that at 11:34 a.m. Sunday a man was driving a gray 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup south on Southmost Boulevard when he reached the intersection of Monsees Road.
Troopers say a man driving a white 2002 GMC Yukon was traveling east on Monsees Road when he failed to yield to the pickup and hit the truck. They say he lost control of the vehicle, struck a tree and then overturned into the empty canal.
One of the passengers in the Yukon was 13-year-old Rodrigo Mancilla. He died of his injuries at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. The driver was taken to Valley Regional Medical Center. His two other passengers were taken to VBMC.
DPS Troopers are still investigating the accident and have released no information on the possibility of charges being filed.
