Eugene Lamey -- Kellogg

Eugene E. Lamey, 94, of rural Kellogg, passed away Dec. 31, 2018, at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home, Wabasha.

Eugene Edward was born Aug. 20, 1924, in lower Sand Prairie, to John and Kathryn (Paine) Lamey. He married Marjorie A. Nickelsen on Oct. 3, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minneiska. They farmed together in Minneiska township, rural Kellogg, their entire married lives. He was a dairy farmer in his earlier years, but he enjoyed growing melons and selling them throughout southeastern Minnesota and Twin Cities farmers markets.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Gene enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, with his final hunt in 2012. Gene and Marjorie enjoyed traveling and he loved raising and riding horses. He was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings and he thought fondly of his dog, Molly.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews and from Marjorie’s family, survivors include: sisters-in-law, Barbara “Jeanie” Theuner and Sharon Kay (Allyn) Wachholz; brothers-in-law, Wally (Esther) Nickelsen and James (Barbara) Nickelsen; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; three sisters, Stella Theuner, Elizabeth Ives and Lorraine Hager; five brothers, George, Lawrence, Omer, Ralph and Vincent; a special nephew, Ralph Theuner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minneiska, with the Rev. Father Chinnappa Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Memorials are requested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minneiska or St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minneiska.
