The Frederick Board of Trustees fired Town Manager Matt LeCerf at Tuesday night’s meeting with a narrow board majority vote.
Trustee Rocky Figurilli motioned to remove LeCerf from the position, and that was seconded by Trustee Sam DeSantis.
Trustees Figurilli, Desantis and Rusty ONeal voted to fire LeCerf.
Trustee Tracie Crites and Mayor Pro-Tem Laura Brown voted to retain LeCerf.
Trustee Dan March was absent from the meeting due to illness, and did not immediately respond to an email requesting an interview regarding how his vote would have fallen.
Mayor Tony Carey — who only votes in the event of a board tie — blasted the decisions of Figurilli, Desantis and ONeal in a news release sent by the town Wednesday morning.
“This action shows that some of our elected representatives are not representing their community. Matt has served this town with excellence and heart over the past six years. These three have shown a complete lack of respect for their fellow trustees and their community with this surprise vote taking advantage of Trustee March’s absence due to illness. Once again a splinter group of trustees has chosen to waste hard-earned taxpayer dollars to now pay severance to the reigning Manager of the Year and recruitment process to find his replacement,” Carey said in the release.
LeCerf could not immediately be reached for comment.
