JUNEAU, Alaska — There are no hanging chads, but there is one uncounted vote that could sway control of the Alaska House to the Democrats, preventing complete domination by the GOP in Alaska. A recount has been ordered Friday for a House race in Fairbanks. Both the Democratic candidate, Kathryn Dodge, and the Republican Bart LeBon, have 2,661 votes, but an uncounted ballot was found in a secrecy sleeve. By Becky Bohrer. KETCHIKAN — An Alaska-made product that aims to be an environmentally friendly alternative to regular wood logs will be sold for the first time across the state. Viking Firelogs made on Prince of Wales Island are being shipped to the nine Walmart stores in the state. SENT: 285 words.


ANCHORAGE — Officials have banned a longtime musher from competing in Alaska’s Iditarod sled race next year, citing concerns about his care of dogs. The race’s Qualifying Review Board denied musher Hugh Neff’s application. SENT: 240 words.
