Swimmers tenth at Metro Invitational

MEQUON — Watertown’s boys swim team placed tenth out of 14 teams at the Metro Invitational with a score of 76.5 points on Thursday.

Nathan Williams had the top individual finish for the Goslings, placing sixth in the 400 individual medley in a time of 5 minutes, 19.93 seconds. Shaun McCloskey placed seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:28.65) and ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:26.78).

A total of 23 personal records were set — Austin Fuchs in the 50 breaststroke (33.76), Liam McCloskey in the 50 butterfly (28.21), Anthony Smith in the 50 breaststroke (36.82), 100 freestyle (1:03.05) and 200 freestyle (2:21.31), Cameron Parrish in the 50 butterfly (35.98), 50 freestyle (28.79) and 200 individual medley (2:52.25) Matthew Marchant in the 50 freestyle (29.28), 100 breaststroke (1:42.21), and 100 freestyle (1:10.69), Payton Crom in the 200 freestyle (2:49.25), Jonah Gibson is the 50 freestyle (31.23), Brendan Williams 100 butterfly (1:05.42), Nathan Williams in the 1000 freestyle (12:29.60) and 400 individual medley (5:19.92), Nathan Lampe in the 50 freestyle relay (25.10) and 200 backstroke (2:25.46), Jonah Seibel in the 50 freestyle relay (34.05) and 50 freestyle (34.37), Thomas van Zanten in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.40), and Zach Jaworski in the 400 individual medley (5:21.91) and 100 freestyle (56.33).

“This is a great opportunity for athletes to experience a college format meet and swim events that are not traditionally available at high school meets,” Watertown boys swim coach Samantha Calliari said.

The team will be diving into a very busy January with the Connor Bourke Relays hosted by Fort Atkinson on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. Watertown is hosting three home meets next month — Jan. 8 versus Milton, Jan. 22 versus Fort Atkinson, and Jan. 29 versus Oregon.
