Mom And Teen Daughter Charged With Father-Grandfather’s Murder
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ A woman and her teen-age daughter have been charged with murdering the woman’s father, whose body was found weighted down with concrete blocks in a canal.
Detectives believe the two women and a friend killed Emmett Richardson, 71, to get money for their cocaine habit, said Jim Leljedal of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
″The girl told her friends and neighbors that ’Grandpa went to the hospital and died,‴ Leljedal said.
Paulette McIntosh, 42, and her 15-year-old daughter were jailed Sunday on charges of first-degree murder and robbery, said Leljedal. Their friend, Dean Dameron, 27, was also jailed on those charges, he said.
Police theorize that the trio threw a sheet over Richardson’s head, bound his hands and gagged him with a sock Wednesday night to get the keys to his Pompano Billiard Hall, where they stole several hundred dollars, Leljedal said.
When they returned from the pool hall, Richardson, who suffered respiratory problems, had died, he said. Mrs. McIntosh and her daughter put him in bed and went out to buy cocaine, he said.
The next night, Dameron and three friends dumped Richardson’s body into a shallow Coconut Creek canal. His body was found Friday.
Mrs. McIntosh and Dameron were booked without bond. Her daughter was placed in the Broward Juvenile Detention Center.
Police were still seeking the three people who helped Dameron put Richardson’s body in the canal, Liljedal said.
