Maori All Blacks edge determined Japan 20-18
TOKYO (AP) — Dan Pryor ran in a try with three minutes remaining to give the Maori All Blacks a 20-18 win over Japan on Saturday,
The hosts came back from a 15-0 deficit at Prince Chichibu rugby ground but the tourists ultimately extended their winning streak to 18 games.
Maori’s lock Tom Franklin received a yellow card within the first 10 minutes, but Japan could not capitalize on its advantages in possession and territory until Akihito Yamada’s try in the 38th minute, making it 15-5 at halftime.
The lead was cut to 15-10 by a penalty try and Ayamu Goromaru pulled his team even closer with a penalty in the 55th minute. Goromaru put the hosts ahead 18-15 with a penalty in the 72nd minute before Pryor’s winning try.
