CANTON -- Authorities arrested a 75-year-old Ashburnham man after police seized 150 pounds of illegal marijuana in his truck during a traffic stop in Canton.

According to the Canton Police Department, Irvin Ulshen was pulled over Wednesday afternoon on Route 138 by local police, State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“We were able to seize 150 pounds of illegal, black-market marijuana,” said Canton police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz in a statement, adding that the marijuana has an estimated street value of $500,000.

The septuagenarian was arraigned Thursday morning in Stoughton District Court with one count of marijuana trafficking in excess of 100 pounds, according to a spokesman for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.

A judge set Ulshen’s bail at $2,000 and he will reappear in court on Jan. 22.
