LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) _ Derrick Beavers ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns, and Tim Leger passed for two more scores Saturday night as McNeese State beat Arkansas-Monticello, 49-3, to keep alive its streak of nine straight homecoming victories.

Freddie Bynum also ran for 144 yards and one touchdown as Neese (2-3) compiled a school record 612 yards in total offense. The Cowboys defense, meanwhile, held the Monticello (3-2) to 129 yards rushing, 56 yards passing and a 47-yard field goal by Kenny Hardin in the second quarter.

Leger completed 11 of 17 passes for 209 yards in the top offensive performance by the Cowboys this season.

Also, place kicker Rob Baldwin, who returned to the team this week to kick placements because of an injury to regular kicker Shonz LaFrenz, tied a school record with seven extra-point conversions.

McNeese led all the way, scoring two touchdowns in the first, second and fourth periods.

Beavers scored on runs of two and 69 yards while Bynum scored on an 89-yard run. The Pokes also got a one-yard touchdown from from Earnest McGowan, the Cowboy third tailback, while Leger connected scoring passes of six yards to Dustin Guidry and 14 yards to Donnie Ashley.

McNeese’s other touchdown came on a 44-yard return pass interception return by Clyde Williams.
