Blown Fuse Stalls 31 Park Rides, 200 People Aboard
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ Officials at an amusement park on Monday checked electrical works following an outage that cut power to 31 rides and briefly stranded 200 people.
Most patrons of Rocky Point Park were stuck in the rides for about five minutes after the power failure Sunday afternoon, said David Cascioli, the park’s general manager.
He said it took about 20 minutes to free eight people in a Skyliner chairlift ride who had to climb down fire ladders to safety. No injuries were reported.
People on the ferris wheel were able to get down when workers turned the wheel by hand, and gravity took care of two roller coasters, Cascioli said.
Cascioli blamed the blown fuse on dampness at a power substation.
The amusement park is only open on Sundays in April and was closed as scheduled Monday, Cascioli said.
