Unlicensed driver pleads guilty in crash that killed woman
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — An unlicensed driver who fled the scene after a crash that killed a backseat passenger has pleaded guilty to a charge of death by auto.
Khadija Hamilton entered the plea Thursday as part of a deal with Hudson County prosecutors. They will recommend that the 27-year-old Jersey City resident receive a five-year term when she’s sentenced Oct. 26.
Authorities say 24-year-old Khalla Nguyen was killed in the Jan. 27 crash in Jersey City. She was found injured inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Hamilton and two other passengers walked away from the car after it struck a metal guardrail. Emergency responders stopped one passenger at the scene, while the other was located later in the day. Both identified Hamilton as the driver.
