2 screwdrivers allegedly too much for 87 year old arrested for DUI
Lake Havasu City Police said an 87-year-old man allegedly admitted he “may have had too much to drink” after a traffic accident late Friday night.
Ocie Maxie Hand, 87, of Havasu, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI resulting from an incident at the intersection of Mesquite Avenue and Capri Lane at about 11 p.m., Friday, May 17.
The investigating officer saw a car blocking traffic that was involved in the crash. After getting the scene cleared, he spoke with Hand, who allegedly admitted he “came up on the intersection too quickly and didn’t stop in time.”
According to the report, Hand said he had come from the American Legion where he had two “screwdrivers.”
When the officer attempted to give a field sobriety test to Hand, he stumbled and nearly fell before the officer caught him.
The officer said that Hand said “Evidently I had too much to drink” and that “Two is too much for him.”
He was then arrested and a breath test at the police station revealed a BAC of 0.115.
