WV fine-tunes campaign finance law

By PHIL KABLER HD MediaMay 28, 2019

CHARLESTON — West Virginia elections commissioners adopted legislative rules Friday to enforce a new state law increasing campaign contribution limits but also increasing disclosure requirements for political action committees and independent expenditure groups.

The commission worked on language to better clarify what committees and organizations are required to file in contribution and spending disclosures under the new law, Senate Bill 622.

“We want to make sure the public and the political action committees have a good indication of who should file as a PAC,” Donald Kersey, general counsel for the Secretary of State’s Office, said.
