ABUSE HOTLINE-MISSED CALLS
COLUMBIA, Mo. _ Only about half of last year’s nearly 92,000 calls to Missouri’s hotline to report abuse of the elderly were answered and the situation has only gotten worse, according to state records. SENT: 580 words.
DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD-STATE
KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Kansas paid out-of-state law firms at least $899,000 in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to defund Planned Parenthood, according to records obtained by KCUR radio. SENT: 410 words.
_ HOTEL ROBBERY ASSAULT _ A 19-year-old Missouri man is accused of assaulting workers and terrorizing guests during an attempted robbery at a hotel.
_ SHOT AT OFFICER-SENTENCE _ A man from Ferguson who shot at an off-duty police officer after being thrown out of a bar has been sentenced to 6½ years in federal prison.
_ HANDCUFFED MAN DROWNING _ A judge has reversed the revocation of the peace officer license of a Missouri highway patrolman who was driving a boat when a handcuffed Iowa man fell out and drowned.
_ BODY IDENTIFIED _ A man found dead near a south St. Louis County park last week has been identified as a man reported missing in Illinois earlier this month.
_ SEVERE WEATHER-KANSAS-MISSOURI _ Parts of Missouri and Kansas are cleaning up from severe storms that churned up tornadoes and caused renewed flooding concerns.
