Marshall sits 5th in C-USA women’s golf

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Shelby Brauckmuller’s 2-under-par round of 70 helped Marshall University to fifth place Monday in the opening of the Conference USA women’s golf championship on the Old Orange course at The Verandah Club.

Old Dominion and UTSA share the team lead at 6-under 282. Charlotte (286) is third followed by North Texas (287) and Marshall (293) among the 12 teams.

Ana Gonzales and Madison Kidd from UTSA and Sana Tufail from Old Dominion are the individual leaders at 3-under 69.

Brauckmuller is tied for fourth place and teammate Kerri Parks shot 73 and is tied for 20th. Jackie Schmidt and Stormy Randazzo both shot 75 for the Thundering Herd and Ylva Forslund carded a 76.

The 54-hole tournament continues with rounds Tuesday and Wednesday.


HUNTINGTON - Ohio University (10-23) visits Marshall (20-15) for a 3 p.m. Tuesday non-conference baseball contest at the Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center.

Ohio senior infielder Rudy Rott leads the Bobcats with a .339 batting average, seven home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Marshall senior outfielder Shane Hanon, a .375 hitter, has four homers and 19 RBIs. Junior infielder Elvis Peralta (.340) is the Thundering Herd homer leader with six and has driven in 28 runs. Senior outfielder Tucker Linder (.331) has 32 RBIs.

Linder is on a 20-game hitting streak.
