The Rev. Robert Bushey file
Personal: 48. A Kankakee County native. He was born at St. Mary’s Hospital and lives in Limestone. His father and mother, Bob and Janet Bushey, are deceased. They were married for 59 years and died eight weeks apart in 2015. He now lives in the home where he was once an infant.
Roberty Bushey is married to Teri, who works at the Kankakee Public Library. They have two sons, Josh, a student at Kankakee Community College; and Nick, a senior at Herscher High School.
Education: A graduate of Herscher High School, where he was a mathlete. He was active in church activities as a youth. A graduate of Culver-Stockton College, which is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. Graduate of Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis.
Profession: Minister at churches in Missouri, Indiana and Decatur, before returning home in 2010 to Central Christian Church, Bourbonnais.
Inspiration: The late Howard and Eleanor Ditrick, who led the church where Bushey now serves. They were the ministers when the current church was built and Bushey attended there as a youth. He later had the honor of officiating at both of their funerals.
Community: Active in the Fortitude Pads program for the homeless in the area. Central Christian is the Tuesday night shelter site. Bushey also is active with the Continuum of Care and the River Valley Clergy Alliance.
Relaxation: Yoga. Rides a bicycle along the riverfront trail. Gardens and preserves the vegetables he raises. Home improvement fan. Built a greenhouse out of old repurposed storm windows.
